The Mystery Trip will always stand out in my mind as the best one ever! From riding the “ducks” in Chattanooga, through the Golden Isles of Jekyl, St. Simons, and Sea Island, then on to historic Warm Springs and the Little White House, the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins, and beautiful Callaway Gardens, it was awesome! We even went out on a shrimp boat and dined on our freshly caught shrimp! Speaking of food, it doesn’t get much better than a southern shrimp boil or those delicious crab cakes at Barbara Jean’s place on St. Simons! And, just as I thought we had done it all, Martha topped off an already wonderful trip with a surprise that was like “icing on the cake”.

As we reached Nashville, Tennessee on our way home, our driver exited off I-65 and headed for downtown Nashville and the music city area. As he was parking the motor coach, Martha announced that we were going to tour the famous RCA Studio B, where Elvis and many other well-known country music stars had recorded. Inside we were met by a young woman who gave us a tour of the facility, identifying the portraits lining the walls and playing bits of each artist’s music. Next, we were guided to a large room with a piano and a wall-to-wall window separating it from the area housing recording equipment. Behind the window partition was a young man whom we assumed to be a recording technician. Our tour guide informed us that this was the room where Elvis had done his recording, and used the piano sitting there. At that point, Martha stepped forward and announced that we….40 mostly old people who had never sung together before….were going to make a record of Elvis’ “CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU”. We looked around at each other like deer caught in headlights, wondering if any of us could sing! I mean, who knew? But no one backed out and after one trial run, we made a CD! And, it is really good! Thanks to Martha’s generosity, we received a copy of our CD as a very special souvenir of a most memorable Mystery Trip!
